GBH Busy Season

Getting the nesting spot ready, hoping for a bride. “Males arrive at the colony and settle on nest sites; from there, they court passing females” (All About Birds)
Stretching skyward is only one of many dramatic courtship behaviors displayed by Great Blue Herons. To learn much more, check out All About Birds.

Ruffling the feathers can be another sign of breeding season.💕

Looking for a bite to eat. Some of the GBH nesting pairs already have chicks, but others are still working on their nests. The young will generally be cared for and fed by the parents for 49-81 days.

Off to work – busy time of year!

  2. It was terrific seeing all the breeding behavior of the GBHs here, BJ. I especially liked the second photo of the courtship dance. So wonderful we still have these beautiful waders reproducing on our planet. Great post, BJ.
