Amazing! Just curious: Is there a difference between their roles? For example is one the protector and the other the bread winner, or do they share both responsibilities?
What a treat to see these red-winged blackbirds, bj. I so enjoyed the nest video, heard myself gasp with delight when we saw the tiny nestling’s mouth open.

Interestingly, once the eggs hatch, they both share the role of protecting the nest as well as getting and bringing the food. Great question, Yishai☺️

Thanks so much, Jet! At that stage, until they open their mouths, they scarcely look like baby birds yet!!

Thank you for showing how even a very common bird can elicit such delight!
Things like this keep us heading outdoors as often as possible.

I guess the adult bird in the video had no choice but to let you get close. Or maybe it somehow intuited you weren’t a threat.

The nest was at eye-level about 10-12” from the boardwalk railing, and the mom had just flown in with some food.

Recently, saw these tiny birds pecking at the heads of ravens, protecting their homes. A mother’s love.
