Red-winged Blackbird females have been very busy in the last few weeks! It was such a delight to spot the one above, singing her morning song. ☀️
This is the time of year we see the perfect little nests of Red-winged Blackbirds popping up everywhere in the wetlands. Often they are constructed in a V-shaped fork of a Pond Apple tree, where two branches meet. The mother-to-be above, appeared to be just testing out her newly designed nest for size. Will keep watching for eggs! ☺️
Oh, what a sight, a Red-winged delight! In the fork of a tree, so blissfully alight. With her wings spread wide, she sings out her tune, A melody bright, beneath the moon. 🌙🎶
In the wetlands, the nests bloom like spring, A V-shaped fork, where birds take wing. Her test for size is a chore so grand, As she crafts her home with a delicate hand. 🏡🪶
But will she lay eggs? Oh, that’s the quest! We’ll wait and see, to know her best. The Pond Apple tree, with branches so neat, Bears witness to her morning tweet! 🌳🐦
In the rhythm of life, we’re all just a part, From nests to notes, it’s a work of art. So here’s to the birds, in flight and in song, May they soar with joy all the year long! 🕊️🎉

It’s a great time to be out in Florida. Love that image of Mrs. Blackbird and her morning song.
Nests showing up wherever we see reeds. Thank you for the cool video.

The same here, Wally! And Pond Apple trees are a real favorite choice for our nesting RWBB’s.

Female Redwings often get overlooked, but I love their striped plumage and the varying degrees of red or orange in their feathers. I hope you will be able to see some nestlings.
