Relaxing in an old wooden rocker on the back porch at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary to keep out of the rain, I kept hearing a continuous chit-chit-chit call.
I peeked over the balcony and discovered this sweet female Northern Cardinal hopping about in a steady light drizzle atop a small stone fountain.
I’m pretty sure she was saying, “Hey, what’s going on?? Is it actually raining, or is that just the fountain I hear??”
That was a delightful sighting. I enjoyed your video and watching her cock her head trying to figure out the situation. I wonder if she wanted a bath?

She was definitely deliberating about something! You might be right, Deborah!

A lovely moment you shared with the Mrs Cardinal BJ. They are special times our Lord gives us alone with one of his creatures. He probably sent here along just to say ‘I love you BJ and I love that you love what I have made’

I agree, AB. Those “alone“ moments with birds and other living creatures are really precious. ☺️

What a lovely little scene BJ. The way she hops around, trying to figure out what’s rain and what’s fountain feels almost like a tiny story unfolding. Thanks for sharing this, it made me smile.😁

You may very well be right, Ann! I’m not really sure what she was doing before I walked over to the railing and saw her hopping about on the fountain.

Carol, those northern cardinals sure do migrate and become permanent residents. We saw so many in Houston Texas when we visited last year. I was really surprised. I thought we were so lucky to have them in the northeast. We certainly miss seeing them outside our bedroom window in the huge pine tree along with the Blue Jays. Such gorgeous birds. Susan

I just realized that this is you, Susan! I am so glad that we had Cardinals in New York and we have Cardinals here in Florida. Are there no Cardinals in California at all?

Carol, I have no I haven’t seen any here in Southern California, nor have my sisters seen any up north! Susan ps we frequently see the California bluebird, but in NY rarely see Eastern bluebird.
