Exciting news!! They have arrived! The Great Blue Herons are coming back and are beginning to settle in at the wetlands rookery.
Today was the first time this fall that I saw them ‘displaying’, as in this arched neck posture, and jockeying for the best nesting sites on the tree island.
They looked just magical in the late afternoon light!
The lighting in the lower photo IS magical! Love it!!
Thanks, Con!! Nesting season should be in full swing when you arrive 😉
We will see them again next spring. Happy they made their way south. Beautiful images.
Thanks GWGT! Have a lovely holiday~
What beautiful photos…each one filled with nature’s loveliness and with wonderful light and contrasts.
Such a lovely comment, thank you for your thoughtful words!
Love is in the air! 🙂
Exactly!!
How very exciting that is — and your photos are wonderful as always, my friend. 🙂
You are so kind. It’s really special to be here to see the cycle of the breeding and nesting season begin all over again.
What a beautiful bird, especially in their breeding plumage!
I agree, they are incredible, and this is just the beginning….! Looking very much forward to all of our wetland birds arriving back to court and nest here over the next few months. The changes in their colors are amazing to see.
