Coming into their own

IMG_4758IMG_4764I spotted these two sweet, young adult Purple Gallinules the other day. . . . more colorful than their younger juvenile peers, but not yet as brilliant as they will be in their full adult colors.

  1. What a rich blue-indigo. We have no bird like that in Austin (at least I don’t think so), but we do share the pickerelweed with you.

    Happy soon-to-be 2019, and may it bring you many more chances for avian portraits.

  2. I do like those young gallinules. I find it interesting with the young adult birds that they do seem to , well, look young in expression…still kind of tentative and quizzical I guess. Can’t say I’ve seen images of this species at this age before. I like them.
