I spotted these two sweet, young adult Purple Gallinules the other day. . . . more colorful than their younger juvenile peers, but not yet as brilliant as they will be in their full adult colors.

What beautiful birds, and a lucky sighting!
Yes, Pam, it was just at the end of my walk when the first one appeared, and how lucky to spot the second one on the other side of the boardwalk a few minutes later!
Beautiful sharp photos. I know how hard it is to catch this bird on film, especially perched like that.
Thank you so much. It’s a joy to watch them clambering about on these narrow stems…love it when they stay out in the open.
Great shots Carol! 🙂
Thank you, HJ! Hope your winter is going beautifully.
Very beautiful birds! 🙂 ❤
They are! And even more so as adults. I appreciate your visit!
What a rich blue-indigo. We have no bird like that in Austin (at least I don’t think so), but we do share the pickerelweed with you.
Happy soon-to-be 2019, and may it bring you many more chances for avian portraits.
They are beauties. May you continue to enjoy many beautiful moments outdoors in the upcoming year!
I do like those young gallinules. I find it interesting with the young adult birds that they do seem to , well, look young in expression…still kind of tentative and quizzical I guess. Can’t say I’ve seen images of this species at this age before. I like them.
What thoughtful comments, Judy, thank you! Yes, you’ve described the character of this not-yet-adult stage so beautifully.
Love the bright eyes, active poses, and the lrich plumage. Lovely images.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment – they are very lovely young birds.
Gorgeous!
Thank you so much, Jean!
Lovely images – such handsome plumage, nice active poses.
I’m so glad you like them! Thanks very much for your visit.
You are lucky to have sighted these beautiful young adults! Great shots too.
They are always such a delight to see. Thanks for your visit, Tiny, and wishing you a wonderful New Year~!
