Just catching up after a long illness and wanted to share a few recent images from Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, since I haven’t been on WordPress for the past two months. I look forward to catching up with my fellow-bloggers’ posts in the coming weeks!☀️

This chubby little Gray Catbird climbing around on the mossy rocks was just irresistible.

Young White Ibis got left behind when his flock of friends took off 😌

American Bittern on the left, and Black-crowned Night Heron on the right, two members of the Ardeidae Family: Herons, Egrets, and Bitterns, that are masters of camouflage. See more comparisons on All About Birds.

Absolutely fantastic!! What gorgeous colors! 😊🌻🌸

Ahhh Corkscrew, it never fails photographers. Sorry to hear you were ill. I think it’s a trend 😳. I’m out, with only a shorter lens, once a week. Good thing I live where I do. Glad you are out and about.

Hi Carol, so nice to “see” you and this lovely variety of sightings at Corkscrew. I had noticed you were missing from Reader and wondered… so glad you are out and about.
The purple iris is always a favorite of mine and that’s a neat image with the fern in the background. Love your Catbird capture–what detail and color.

Sure hope you’re on the mend. You were missed!
Absolutely lovely post! Love those Savanna Irises! That American Bittern is special! It and the Catbird will be heading north before too long. At least the Black-crowned Night Heron and White Ibis will remain to keep us company.
Corkscrew is a very unique spot!

Sorry to hear you’ve been sick, glad you’re feeling better.
Do you know why the place is called Corkscrew Swamp?

Thank you, Steve! According a few sources, Corkscrew Swamp’s name derives from the twisty river that led settlers through the area.
