What a beautiful spoonbill! this is the first I have seen of this specie, I am featuring the Royal Spoonbill again later this week, I love the spoonbills, especially in their breeding plumage. Well shot!

The Rosies, as they’re often called, are light pink when young. As they get older, their feathers become deep dark pink, and the coloring on their bare-looking heads changes a bit. They are very striking at any age! Look forward to seeing your pics this week.

Very pretty capture. I only see them in the zoo. They are such an odd looking bird, they all look female to me being pink.

LOL, good point about the pink! I honestly don’t know how to tell male from female Spoonbills. In fact, many of our other large wading birds, like herons, Wood Storks, and egrets also have only very subtle differences between male and female.
