Thank you, AB! Although alligators are certainly apex predators that can be dangerous, I always think of crocodiles as being much more sinister. Do you hear of many attacks by crocodiles on people?
They certainly are deadly if you get too close, but most Aussies keep away from areas they inhabit, viewing from a boat. It is mainly silly tourists from other countries which fail to obey the warning signs that fall prey, Thankfully croc attacks are very rare and thankfully one big feed can last a month. Our more recent research has shown an increase in numbers on river banks and also size. They are growing larger as they are not culled but protected.
Sounds similar to our American alligator situation. Gators don’t see humans as prey, per se, but they can be aggressive if threatened or if their nest is threatened.
What a beautiful butterfly. I have not seen a Queens Butterfly before (that I know of!), but had her relative, the Monarch, stop by yesterday for a brief moment. She landed on our lone blossoming Zinnia, but was gone before I could grab my camera. A bunch more will be blossoming soon, so here’s hoping she lingers a bit longer next time.
Thanks, Kathy. I really questioned whether that was a Monarch or not. But I checked ID sources, and it repeatedly came up as a Queen, very similar-looking to a Monarch. I hope your Monarch returns and stays for a while.

Thank you for sharing your charming encounters (though charming is probably not the adjective I would apply to an alligator 😊).

Oh, I think charming is OK for this particular alligator, Tanja it was really a very young one – still rather cute!

A beautiful showcase of water creatures BJ. I love your Snowy Egret and the way the Gator hides amid the water plants, our Crocs do the same.

I appreciate the portrait of the egret, whose plumy white stands out so well against the darker background.
