We saw a clump of these gorgeous flowers growing wild near the water’s edge alongside Blackpoint Wildlife Drive, at Merritt Island NWR the other day. They grow on individual stems, about 15+” tall, each with this incredible blossom cluster about 2-3″ across.
I think it’s a Kalanchoe delagoensis, according to the Atlas of Florida Plants, but I’d be happy to be corrected if it’s something else. ♥️
I looked up trumpet plants and poked around a bit with Kalanchoe plants and think you’re right it’s a Kalanchoe
Delagoensis Chandelier plant. It says it’s toxic to pets and wildlife. So, birds too I suspect.

Thanks, Deborah! A local birding friend of mine is the one who suggested this name, and it looks like the closest fit. 😊

I believe some referred to it as a mad hatter, marmalade esplanade.

Thanks for enjoying it with me, Jet! I love going to Merritt Island around this time of year. Remind me… Have you been there?

Yes, I was there in Nov. 2019 looking extensively for a Florida Scrubjay (would-be lifer) as I enjoyed looking at crocodiles, birds and the landscape. Never saw the jay but had a wonderful time. 🙂

Glad you had a chance to visit but sorry you missed the Scrub Jay. They can be tough to find! Hopefully you’ll make it back to Merritt Island again one day. ☀️

🌸 Along the water’s edge, a mystery blooms, 🌿 In nature’s gallery, where beauty looms. 🌺 Gorgeous flowers, wild and free, 🌼 A spectacle, a sight to see.
Blackpoint’s drive, a floral embrace, 🚗 Merritt Island’s wonder, in nature’s grace. 🏞️ Stems standing tall, about fifteen inches high, 📏 Blossom clusters, like a painted sky.
Incredible hues, a 2-3 inch dance, 🌈 A floral wonder, a wild romance. 💖 Kalanchoe delagoensis, a guess so sweet, 🌿 Atlas of Florida Plants, nature’s heartbeat.
Yet, open to correction, the birder’s plea, 🙏 For the wisdom of many, a shared decree. 🌐 In this bloom’s identity, let truth unfold, 📜 A flower’s tale, in colors bold.
🌸🌿🌼🚗🏞️📏🌈💖🌿🙏🌐📜

Such a remarkable flower!! Just growing there modestly out of the dirt alongside the road, beneath a tree.
