Just came back from an evening walk at our favorite wetlands.

A slight movement here in the dense marsh foliage made me take a closer look – and there he was!
How lovely to encounter this Least Bittern climbing deftly from stem to stem right in front of us. ☺️
An amazing and somewhat rare video! Beautiful!

Thanks, Berny! Must be the high quality of the iPhone that I borrowed to take the video. 😉

How wonderful to see the bittern and be able to film it at such close quarters. The paler feathers blend very well with the dead leaves – you did well to spot it!

Thanks so much, Ann! These little birds are amazing at blending in to their surroundings. It was a real treat to watch him right next to where we were standing.

You did well BJ to even see a Bittern never the less photograph it, they are so elusive.

This must be among the least bitter things you’ve experienced recently.

Definitely! … though I must say that a lovely little Prairie Warbler I spotted the next morning was a close second! ☺️

What a wonderful encounter. And what an amazing video. I have only heard this bird twice in my life and have never seen it, so you can believe me when I say that I’m a little envious. 😊
