The irresistible, iridescent Purple Gallinule was one of the first wetland birds I got to know after moving to Florida.

Fabulous birds with a wonderful combination of colours – they’re very showy. (And the photography is great – makes me feel as if I’m catching a glimpse of them from somewhere nearby.)

Thank you, Ann. They really are remarkable to see – and we’re so lucky to have a boardwalk throughout the wetlands that makes it’s so easy for us to get close to the birds!

They are a fun bird to watch and your first image has it all—the feet hanging on, the color, and a dunk in the water with a reflection!
