What a sweet and gentle expression on the face of the young Purple Gallinule featured above! This little beauty was peeking out from among the pond greenery next to the boardwalk. Despite the low lighting and the shadows playing on his face and back, I couldn’t resist posting a few shots of him.
Just before he climbed deeper into the reeds, the young Purple Gallinule treated me to a glimpse of his soft blue wings, a sure sign of his identity. (Audubon)
In the coming months, the juvenile will mature into the brilliant appearance of this adult Purple Gallinule who was wading nearby, with its iridescent bluish-purple feathers and brightly-colored beak and powder-blue shield.
Great pictures of this beautiful bird! Love the gentle expression you have captured.

I appreciate that you shared this today. I was fortunate when I wintered in Florida to photograph a adult Purple Gallinule.
