I always love watching Purple Gallinules as they scale the heights of the tall, narrow Fireflag plants to get at their tasty purple blossoms.
You can see the eager anticipation in his eyes as he gets closer!

I’ve never seen them do that. I’ve only caught them wading alone in the shallow swamps. Beautiful photos.

Thanks so much. We actually see them do this all the time – they are quite the acrobats! I guess we are just lucky that we have so many of these Fireflag plants with the tall narrow reeds, and yummy blossoms at the top.

Yes, he is glorious, Tiny! They seem to love the fresh water marshes and wetlands here, especially the Spatterdock and the Fireflag plants. Maybe the saltmarsh is just too salty?

How lucky to not only see the showy and lovely purple gallinule, but to find him eating purple plants too! Fantastic photos of a very beautiful bird, BJ.

Thank you! They do seem to love these purple blossoms, and they can be seen climbing in and around them till the Fireflags dry up and wither and disappear at the end of their season.
