Gray Catbirds, like this handsome guy perched above, were everywhere. They are unique songbirds in that their song actually sounds more like a mewing cat – really helps in identifying them! I love this very apt description of them from All About Birds : “Catbirds are secretive but energetic, hopping and fluttering from branch to branch . . .”We spent a lot of time watching this young Red-shouldered Hawk trying to hunt for breakfast. He flew from branch to branch in a rather thick wooded area, but hadn’t quite caught on yet to the ‘descending swiftly and gliding’ (All About Birds) part of the routine! He swooped a lot from branch to branch, but kept missing.
As some of you know, I have a fondness for the unique signs that appear out in the wetlands and marshes where I go birding. Here’s another sign you don’t see every day . . . It is conveniently posted where several large trees overhang a parking lot near a popular Trail. Fair warning!
I love these two bird captures! That is a unique sign. 🙂
Thanks, Amy! We’re heading to the Everglades again in a few days.

The Everglades is such a special place✨!
Beautiful looking catbird, very different in all ways to our catbirds. I would never have picked it as a catbird from appearance. Great shot BJ!
Thank you, AB! Ours may not be exciting as some other birds, but I honestly think they’re quite pretty. I’ll have to look up what Australian Catbirds look like.
Excelent photos BJ. Everglades, a special and unique place.
Connie
It certainly is – in fact, I’m going down there again tomorrow with my sister, whose name also happens to be Connie 🙂
Enjoy the Everglades.
These are wonderful!
So kind of you! Thanks for your visit!
Both captures are beautiful! And the warning sign not a usual one 🙂
They even give away large blue tarps to protect your car from the vultures in the parking lot!
Both of your captures are fantastic! And love the sign, gave me a chuckle. 🙂
Thanks for your comments, Donna – I guess the vultures are seriously a problem. Today we saw dozens of them in the parking lot.
I love the glint in the catbird’s eye. Both are great portraits.
I’ve come to realize that Catbirds are so much prettier than I ever thought 🙂
Awesome photo and so lucky to be in the Everglades finding her.
Thanks, Barbara… You’re so right – I tell myself every day how lucky I am!
