Somehow I didn’t manage to get any shots of the Black-bellied Whistling Ducklings when they were still fluffy little black and yellow ‘bumblebees’ ☺️ this year. But this week I was delighted to see both the adults and the growing kids – what a treat!

We saw no young either. Great to see these shots. While we have more than last year, still not many around.

I’m not sure whether there were a few were broods of blackbellied whistling ducklings or whether I personally just wasn’t at the right place at the right time. Others in my area posted several pictures of the babies when they were small and fluffy.

Blackbellied whistling ducks remain as one of the most photogenic of all flying creatures.

Always a delight BJ to see little bird families doing well. We seldom see our Whistling Ducks as they live further north, but boy when they are in flock with a hundred or more the whistle is deafening. 🙂

Lol! I know what you mean, AB 😅. We saw (and heard!) lots of them several months ago in Central Florida. You could hear the whistling from quite a distance!
The cute thing about the immature ducks in this post was to hear them whistling already ☺️…. Just not quite as loud as the parents.

I am always amazed how quickly young birds mature. One day, “bumblebee ducklings”. Next week, teenagers already!
