The Tri-colored Heron was having a field day in this quiet little pond, repeatedly flying over the water just above the surface, dipping in, catching a fish and then repeating the process over again, going in the opposite direction.

Do you know why the bird is opening it’s wings? Because is creating shade and be able to see the fish in the water, it’s a procedure that follow some wading birds. Great photos, Carol. 🙂

Tricolored Herons can be so entertaining! Their hunting antics remind of the Reddish Egret. A sort of frantic ballet.
