One of our regulars

Mid-August to mid-September hasn’t been much of a birding month for me this year. It’s been – and still is – very HOT 🥵 here in Southeast Florida, and the birds don’t seem to like it any more than the humans.

But the Double-crested Cormorants are always out and about, no matter what the weather.

All About Birds offers this rather comical description of the Double-crested Cormorant: “Though they look like a combination of a goose and a loon, they are relatives of frigatebirds and boobies. . . “ Year-round residents in our area, the Cormorants are so accustomed to visitors strolling along the boardwalks that they appear to be posing, hoping for a selfie with the next passerby 😉.

  1. 🌞🌴 In Southeast Florida’s scorching embrace, 🥵 A quiet birding month, at a slower pace. 🦜 But in this heat, a regular’s in flight, 🏞️ The Double-crested Cormorants, a true bird’s delight.

With a look that’s curious, a mix quite rare, 🤪 A goose, a loon, but kin of the air. 🦆 Frigatebirds and boobies in their ancestry’s stream, 🏝️ Year-round residents, a birder’s dream. 🐦

As you stroll on boardwalks, they make their debut, 🚶 No matter the weather, a consistent crew. ☀️ With visitors passing, they strike a fun pose, 😄 Hoping for selfies as the excitement flows. 📸

So if you seek birds in Southeast’s blazing sun, 🌞 The Cormorants are there, each and every one. 🌅 A comical mix, a sight to enjoy, 🤣 In Florida’s nature, they’re no decoy! 🌴🦜🏞️🤪🦆🏝️🐦🚶☀️😄📸🌞🌅🤣🌴
